AI in education
I use and build AI tools for teaching, learning and academic work, and I research how AI affects learning. Each card below is a project. If you'd like to talk about any of them, get in touch.
-
Music video
Brain First
A music video teaching six principles for using generative AI well at university, with annotated lyrics linking each line to policy. Made with AI, on purpose, and openly credited.
Watch it and read the lyrics -
Policy
A School AI policy
I wrote my School's generative AI policy and led its response to AI from 2023: an in-person, AI-free exam component in every year of study, alongside supported AI use in coursework. The policy informed later University policy.

Training
AI literacy for students
Sessions that start from where students are, sceptics included: spotting AI errors, using AI without handing over your thinking, and knowing what the rules allow. Each session is tailored to its group.
-
Teaching tools
Interactive risk tasks
Browser-based versions of classic risk and decision-making tasks, such as the Iowa Gambling Task and the Balloon Analogue Risk Task, built with AI assistance for teaching.

Proof of concept
A chatbot for psychology students
An AI assistant to answer psychology students' questions about their course, built and hosted on Amazon Web Services. I decided not to launch it: someone would need to own monitoring and correcting its answers, and good results would depend on accurate course information that is kept up to date. Knowing when not to deploy is part of using AI well.

Case study
Where does admin time go?
I used an AI model running on my own computer, so no data left it, to classify around 1,800 work emails. The quickest win: about 40% of incoming email needed no action, so simple filtering rules saved the most time. The script will be shared on GitHub.
-
Research tool
AI-assisted qualitative coding
A Python pipeline that uses a large language model to apply a coding scheme to qualitative research data. The code will be shared once the related paper is published.

National guidance
British Psychological Society
Member of the BPS task-and-finish group on AI and research integrity (2024-2026), co-developing guidance on responsible AI use for UK psychologists.
Research
I am currently researching how people use generative AI, and what it means for learning. Publications will be listed here and on my Publications page.
